I’ve just listed several first editions on eBay, all on the 10-day auction block. Here’s a sampling:
- A first edition of Tom Clancy’s debut novel, The Hunt for Red October, the first work of fiction published by the U.S. Naval Institute Press. The initial print run was reportedly 5,000, making this a fairly rare and valuable book. I’m starting the bidding at $400, and the copy I have is in better condition than some others I’ve seen listed at higher prices.
- A first edition of Stephen King’s Pet Sematary (1983). For those in the know, this copy contains all the markers of a first edition, first printing (I mention them in the description on eBay, so you can read about ’em there if you want). First editions of this title have recently sold in the $80-95 range, but I’ve started the bidding at $49.99 because the dust jacket is in rough condition and because a previous owner’s name is written on the inside cover. Pet Sematary is the first Stephen King book I ever read and remains one of my favorites, so if no one wants it for this price, I might just keep this baby for myself.
In addition to the eBay auctions, I have approximately 50 titles listed in my Amazon store, with several bins’ worth of books waiting to be added to the inventory. So if you’re looking for a specific first edition, let me know! There’s a chance I already have that title in stock (especially if it’s by Stephen King, Tom Clancy, or Mary Higgins Clark), and if I don’t, I’ll keep an eye out for it on my book-scouting forays. The last book someone asked me to look for was The Hunt for Red October (although the person in question just wants a good reading copy, not a collector’s edition, ergo eBay!).
