Tonight’s news: The Waldo Canyon Fire is down from 18,500 to 16,750 acres. It sounds (don’t quote me on this, though) like no homes have been lost in Peregrine, and the fire line there, while very close to homes, is holding. Some people have been allowed to go back into Mountain Shadows to get possessions and clothes and check out the damage. The area does still remain on mandatory evacuation, however. The news station is showing aerial footage. Some streets look untouched, while the next block may be completely razed. The slope that used to be filled with evergreen trees is gray and brown and desolate.

Containment is up from 10% earlier today to 15%. Some evacuations have been lifted. Residents in southern Rockrimmon, the Kissing Camels area, Pleasant Valley, and Holland Park can go home.

After Tuesday, today has been mostly a relief except for the tragedy of what people have lost.

10:37 p.m.: The police chief just announced that one body was found in a burned residence. Another person is still missing from that address. A primary search has turned up no other bodies, but secondary searches will be conducted. This is the first reported fatality from the fire and has ended the day on a tragic and painful note.
