I was showing pet pictures in ESL class tonight, as requested, and the kids oohed and aahed. While I showed them a photo of Gorey,

she was hanging out right behind my computer, messing with the lamp. So I said, “Do you want to see her live?”, grabbed her, and pulled her into the frame. The kids SHRIEKED. Gorey squirmed and then quieted down enough for them to get a good look.  I let her go and showed them a photo of Zuli

and they immediately wanted to see Zuli in the flesh, too. She was napping in a favorite spot (on top of the box in which I keep printer paper) right beside me, so I grabbed her and forced her to make a cameo.

We commenced with the lesson and chatted about what they’re going to do this weekend (play soccer, study, draw a picture, eat pizza). I showed pictures of the Space Needle, the beach at Picnic Point, and some daffodils, and we talked about spring. Then I asked if they had any other questions for me about either the English lesson or life in the United States, and guess what they said:

“Can we see your pets again?!?!”

So I dragged Bishop

into the frame, and they were ecstatic.

So there it is. My pets are huge in South Korea. (And frankly, I have no idea how I’d fill the time during these English lessons if I didn’t have the pets!)

What are the ages of the kids?? This year I’m working with 6th graders, so they are 11ish. While I can get them into some lofty conversations, we can also divert onto some pretty fun and very BASIC topics, proving that they are still just kids. I love them and can’t imagine life without them. What a great teaching aid you have in your pets! They will come in handy, I’m sure 🙂
